I reach remedial math at the high school and a portion of our lessons try to help our students make real-world connections. Money is the most common thread that connects all of our students. I am looking for new ways to help students see financial connections.
I also feel that it is important to repeat elements of financial literacy when it becomes more applicable to students everyday life. They may have learned elements when they were younger but as a high school student they are actually starting to make some of these financial decisions. How important is it to provide students with some content that allows them to not only refresh their memory but also help them make decisions in real time.
I am encouraged that I will be able to find different elements of lessons that I will be able to implement into my high school courses that will allow students to make good financial decisions as they are beginning to make them independently.
