Financial Literacy Lesson

Brooke Collister

I teach High School Seniors 1 semester of Economics. With Iowa adding financial literacy to the standards this year, I was excited to take this course and receive new resources to implement my lessons. While basic economics is covered already, many seniors leave high school without the knowledge of simple banking and savings strategies. Many students entering college aren't aware of how loans affect their financial situations.

I would outline this information into five unit subjects: Savings, Banking, Payment Types, Credit Scores, and Higher Education. Each unit will be assessed at the end. Throughout each unit, I would provide information, objectives, resources, assignments, and activities to help learn this new information. All of this information is an opportunity to connect with real world situations that would motivate students to do well with this subject.
