Financial Literacy-Financial Literacy in Content Area
I previously taught fourth grade. I am taking this course to renew my teaching license. I currently stay at home with our children. I think that it is important to teach our children about financial literacy. I think that many financial literacy activities can be applied within our at home environment. With our 7 and 8 year old, we have explored the difference between credit and debit cards, discussed the importance of saving, discussed compounding interest, and have explored budgeting by deciding which items to spend their money on, and how much to save. I think that reading the book "Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday," and subtracting using coin manipulates, then recording it on paper or on extra check registers each time he spends his money would be a great activity for them. We could also do some graphing using those figures. Teaching them about goods and services is another activity idea. I am excited to discover more activities to use with them throughout this course.
