Financial Literacy in Education

Carol Reynolds-Ward
Financial literacy is the foundation of financial success.  It is important that students of all ages understand how our monetary system works, how to apply it to everyday life(based on age level understanding), and how it impacts each aspect of our life, either directly or indirectly.  Because it is so multi-faceted, financial literacy is intertwined in everything we do.  Helping students understand this in a broad context, and giving them tools to gain deeper understanding as they mature is invaluable.  From the food we eat, our modes of transportation, homes, to our leisure activities, monetary choices are abundant.  Being able to help students see this in parallel with their other learning, is essential to giving them real world examples of the impact of financial literacy.
