It is interesting that you ask that question as the final draft of the new social studies standards have just been released. Within those standards Financial Literacy is infused K-12. As an eighth grade teacher I began thinking how financial literacy in to my class. I teach American History and government structure. I try to relate my class to today and real world applications. I think a great lesson could be on the national debt and how that relates to say balancing a check book. I use nationaldebt.org and give kids a sheet with monthly expenses and and different income amounts. They don't like the differing amounts and I say not everyone makes the same amount in this country. LOL
