Financial Literacy in School Counseling

I just heard a student yesterday say how they wish there was a class about this very subject!  Many of our students just don't know enough and feel like some of their classes aren't practical.  A class in financial literacy would be life long, practical knowledge.   As a counselor, and typically the one who does scheduling, in smaller schools anyway, a course in financial literacy would be beneficial to all students.  Some schools make it a graduation requirement.  In the school where I'm subbing now we have a seminar over our lunch period.  Seniors take government so it would be easy to have underclassmen take during this time as well.  Right now students rotate every quarter to a new class, adding financial literacy to this time would be perfect.

I agree with you about course offering financial literacy that should be a graduation requirement.  Financial literacy can be a life long lesson for some individuals however I feel schools should provide students with a solid foundational understanding to better help students to be responsible financially.
