Financial Literacy

I previously worked in the banking industry and it bothered me when people didn't reconcile their checking accounts.  Whether is was because they didn't have/take the time or they didn't know how, I'm not sure.  While programs like QuickBooks and online banking/bill pay have made the process easier, people still should know how to balance a checkbook or write a check.  

As a substitute teacher and a mother of three children, I've witnessed our middle school teaching a financial literacy class which includes a checking account unit.  In addition our high school seniors are required to pass an online financial literacy course prior to graduation.  And finally my two college age children were required to take an online orientation course which included a unit on financial literacy.  Obviously the educational leaders in our region recognize this importance of this topic.

If you walk around the Fort Greene neighborhood of BK (I don't actually call it that link except to save time in link a text message), you're likely to come across the rather ornately decorated exterior of a building on an otherwise unassuming residential block. I can't imagine what it weighs, but many years ago, I was able to briefly handle the hilarious Jacob & Co "Billionaire link Watch" (not link sure about the name, it only cost like $18,000,000), and I can report that it's not the sort of watch that you'll forget you're wearing, what with all of the armed guards.
