I am both a substitute teacher and a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children in the foster care system in Iowa. Many of the kids I am assigned to have little or no experience or education regarding financial literacy. Many of them will not even graduate from high school, though I do my best to make sure that doesn't happen. When I work with older kids I try to focus on the holes in their experience that will prepare them for life as independent adults. Financial literacy is a big part of this.
