I work with 4th graders in a summer reading program at our local library. We have a cooking class that we create "Recipes in a Mug" and then the students get to eat their creations. One day we were making Mac n Cheese in a mug and one of the students said she had just eaten it at lunch but she ate it in an individual cup. I explained I had purchased a bag of pasta, sliced cheese and milk and I was feeding 10 students with those purchases that cost a fraction of what she had spent on that one individual serving she had eaten. I would use what I learned in the Financial Literacy program to help define need vs. want, how to budget money, and then the money saved from certain purchases.
