Financial Planning Knowledge

Cathy Jepson
Currently, I'm working on renewing my sub auth certificate. I subbed for several years ago and once had a class of seniors who had a worksheet to complete about salary, paycheck stub, tax deductions, social security tax, etc.
They were given an annual salary amount and told this employee would be paid twice a month. They were baffled when asked how many paychecks this person would receive in the course of a year. Financial planning should be incorporated into the school system as it seems to be the main focus of all of us after we are out of school and so many people learn the hard way how to manage money.

I totally agree Cathy. It has been my experience that my kids that are employed respect and understand the value of money. Students that are just handed money usually have no idea how to budget it.

I completely agree. Many students don’t understand salaries, paychecks, or deductions until they face real-life finances. Simple tools can help them learn early — for example, this site lets students calculate salary and take-home pay easily: https://calculodesalario.com/
