Financial literacy in 5th/6th Grade

I teach Math & Science to 5th/6th graders. I definitely incorporate computation into my daily curriculum and the students also solve real-life math problems on a regular basis. They are currently working on estimating for reasonableness and we have been talking about how this skill can be useful for basic tasks like grocery shopping, planning meals for families, etc.

Teaching a generation of seemingly more entitlement present, it is important to teach them how to have a financial balance and to not spend every dime they acquire.

In relation to the Science curriculum, I could incorporate how research and technology requires funding from many sources, including  the government.
