There is a great importance to understanding basic money management skills such as living within a budget and handling credit and debt is very important for students. Having little or no knowledge regarding financial management can affect students in many different aspects of their life. It can affect their academic performance, mental and physical well-being, and even their ability to find employment after. Regardless if you are a regular teacher or just a substitute.  

It is so interesting to use our own ability to make and use a budget as a reflection of what may or may not work when we teach this to our students.
There is more empathy for what they might be trying to do and finding it difficult to be accurate, stick to, etc.
