Right away when I begin reading the articles I instantly connect to the need for art in order to teach to the multiple intelligences that are present in each classroom. No two students learn and express themselves in exactly the same way. While one student may love to write a story, the next student may express themselves far easier through a work of art. I found it very interesting how the first article talked about the life skills that can be learned through art. Art teaches creativity, allows communication, expressing feelings and emotions, teaches good judgement, encourages out of the box thinking, and so much more. Art is a staple at school that all students need.
I connected a lot with the article talking about fine arts being one of the first areas that is cut, despite the knowledge we have about the importance of art in the school and in education. I was very interested in the article talking about integrating art into all subjects and the different ways they did it. Math seems to be a great time to incorporate art as the two subjects can flow together. Students get to be creative and enjoy their experience without knowing how much learning and math they are truly doing!
I have found in my own classroom how important it is to allow students to learn through hands on experiences. Incorporating art is such a great way to be hands on and allow students to really dig deeper into their learning through creativity and expresses themselves.
