There were several things that really stood out to me in the first article. The first thing that really stood out to me was how art is also a form of communication. This is something that not a lot of people consider art to be, I never even thought of art as a form of communication. Another thing that I found very interesting was how art can influence student behavior, this is something I experienced first hand this past school year. I had a handful of behavior students in my classroom and I was always trying to think of hands on activities that involved some sort of art to get them engaged, and it was very beneficial and eliminated a lot of the behaviors.
The second article was very interesting to me as well. As a general education elementary teacher I am always trying to find ways to incorporate art into the classroom. I am amazed by the results of the experiment that were performed by the IAA. The article states that before IAA became an arts-integrated school only 16 percent of students were proficient, after five years 66 percent of the students were proficient and met their achievements. After reading these results I am going to be doing more research and finding more ways to integrate art in my classroom.
