What was new learning for you?
-There was a lot of new learning for me in this section. One in particular that stood out to me was that lines are "man made inventions to record what he sees on paper." I also learned that each particular line conveys a different meaning. For example, a vertical line conveys a lack of movement, while a horizontal line conveys calmness. In the past, when working with lines, I typically would just draw a simple straight line, not thinking much of it. Now, when I am creating art I can be more intentional with the types of lines I use to help express different feelings.
What was a review?
-For me, a review was on colors. I work with kindergartners and we work with the different colors everyday. In my instruction, we talk a lot about the primary colors and explore, hands-on what happens when you mix two primary colors together. That, then, leads to a class discussion about how secondary colors are created. Typically, students come into the classroom with knowledge of the color names, but most students are not aware of the difference between primary and secondary colors.
How can you apply these concepts to a content area you currently teach?
-As stated above, I teach kindergartners, so I will continue with my instruction of primary and secondary colors. To expand on this, I can introduce the concepts of complementary and analogous colors. I can also introduce the different types of lines to the students during our shapes unit in math. I can explain how different shapes of lines mean different things.
