I had never considered the symbolism of lines to include movement, action, stability (vertical lines), or rest (horizontal lines). This gives me an idea to use with my students as a check in, morning meeting routine, or calm-down routine during transitions. I could have students quick draw a line that represents how they are currently feeling. Spirals and diagonals could represent conflict, excitement, or confusion. Downhill slopes could be returning to calm , etc. I think this would be a great visual social-emotional support for young learners and ELLs.
