The website link to the MoMA art museum (moma.org) had hundreds of new terms to explore. It is even updated with contemporary terms such as Blockchain with links to articles about NFTs and its effects on art today. Looking through I also found terms that bring up art history such as Silver Prints which contained a section on technological advancement in photography.
As an art teacher, many of the terms on art movements, materials, and techniques were a review, yet when I don’t actively teach them they can get foggy over time. The terms that were the most familiar to me were materials such as charcoal, acrylic and canvas.
I would love to add the MoMA website to my list of resources. This could be useful for high school and middle school age students. I could have an “art word of the day” and link to the current project. I could have students use the site as a resource for looking up terms specifically to an assignment. Having students look up a term could be a good introduction to a project such as painting. For example students could look up the terms tempura, oil and acrylic paints and compare the three.
