GMAIL to organize student groups

I frequently put students in groups for long periods of time, and many students from the group communicate with me via email asking for feedback and/or setting up presentation times. I'm intrigued by the idea of creating a label for each group in my inbox and filtering the student messages, so they are identified by their label. I think this would help me keep the different groups more organized.
