GMail in the Classroom

I would like to use gmail to make a group for each of my individual classes.  All students have a school gmail account and this would be a useful communication tool for announcements and reminders.  I would also like to use the chat feature for a homework help session.

I like the idea of using the chat feature to allow the students to communicate with each other on a topic.
