I frequently communicate with my students via their school Gmail accounts. I update them on missing assignments, send notes and Keynote presentation they missed during absences from school, and answer many questions that we don't find the time for during class.
In Reading, an ongoing assignment is to send me an e-mail summary and response to a book that each student is currently reading; I reply to each e-mail and in that way save a great deal of paper and a certain amount of time. And everything stays nicely organized in my folders!
