I use gmail for a few different reasons. I use it to communicate with parents when their child is not doing well. I also like to send out a beginning of the year newsletter that lets them know what to expect in my classroom. This is kind of a welcome to my class and yet lets them know my expectations. We also use gmail to send out progress reports about midway through quarter to let students know how they are doing. With younger students I see it more as a tool for the parents and myself.
