I'm currently working in a fourth grade classroom, and know my students would love for me to incorporate Gmail into my classroom regularly. There were already some really great ideas posted here that I could see myself doing in my classroom. Some ideas I have for using Gmail in my classroom, include:
-Accountability Partners: Having students write back and forth to each other as a part of our biweekly PBIS lessons. Students could write to their accountability partner to set goals for being respectful, responsible, safe, and caring. Their accountability partner could help them set goals, and check in with how their partner is doing towards meeting that goal. I could see taking the first ten minutes to have students start writing; we're often coming back from specials, so it would be a nice way to transition back into the classroom.
-Book Talk: I could see my students having fun using the Google Hangout feature. I love that students can select headgear! I could see my students dressing up as one of the characters from their book, and give a quick summary of the book to their reading small group.
-Sharing Writing: I could also see my students using Google Hangout to share their writing with a peer. Students could again dress up like a character from their book or select the headgear feature. I would like to listen in on the other end of the student sharing their writing. I often find that what students write versus how they read it are two very different things. I like to listen to students read their writing while I'm reading it on the paper to help students better portray their thoughts. Adding Google Hangout could be a better way to make it more exciting for my learners.
