The last time I taught 4th grade, each student had a google account but the gmail was not activated. However, I still think there are many ways that gmail could still be utilized. At the beginning of the year I think it would be a good idea to gather parent emails and add them to contacts. After all the parent contacts are in, make a group with those parent contacts. Then, whenever you need to send an email to all the parents it makes it very efficient. Also, this makes it nice if you want to send quick reminders about homework, early outs, etc. Gmail is a great tool for communicating to parents.
