Gmail in the Classroom

mlammert
As a 6th grade teacher, I do a unit with new middle school students about how to format the proper email, how to add a signature, and how to make labels. I will continue to teach them about how to use google as organization and can add to this filters, muting and archiving emails.

I love the idea of using hangouts for discussion and questions. I have shied away from this - and am not sure if students have access. However, the constant chat would give students quite a bit of ownership in discussions in a different way - and will be super helpful if we continue distance learning at some point.

I have not made contact groups since my first year teaching and will definitely utilize this for my strategies class which has less than 15 students. I can easily send resources, activities and fun notes this way. For the past few years I've used our online grading system to send mass emails, but I will definitely go back to creating groups and using gmail exclusively for this as well.

I have never used tasks, but look forward to learning more about that as a way to keep students on track throughout a project!
