I have used Gmail in the classroom as a research project. With my 3rd Graders we made a zoo animal research book project. They could collaborate on it and even share it with other students to read and look at. It was a good way for students to see how to use the Google Docs and Shared drive. They also used Slides to make a slideshow book.
