I was forced to use Gmail about 2 years ago and was not a big fan. However, through taking this class and discussing with my colleagues how they use Gmail, I have found it to be very powerful. I have created labels for parent communications as well as for each of the sports I coach. It allows me to organize e-mails I want to keep without cluttering my inbox. I also learned in this class how to change my theme and set my inbox to show my unread messages or important messages first. That's really helpful when trying to stay on top of my most important activities. Also, because all of my students have school Gmail accounts, it is easy for me to contact a group of students (making use of Google classroom) or just one student at a time. It's helpful in reminding them of upcoming assignments as well as sending notes to those students who miss class.
