A couple years ago, I started having students practice emailing me at the beginning of the year.  Starting this was initially so students could take more ownership of their learning, and email me questions or setting up a time to meet with me.  I had no idea that a couple years later (now!) it would be so important!  It has helped students that are gone or online check in and ask questions.  I also had some students this year and last spring reach out when they were struggling and weren't at school to reach out.  It made be very glad to have it as a tool students could use to reach out to an adult.
