As a principal of a 1-1 school, I found that encouraging students to use gmail as a means to report unwanted behaviors (bullying type behaviors) we are able to address and handle the matters in a much quicker timeframe. This method has also taken away the fear of being seen reporting an incident. I have a good rapport with the students and this hasn't taken away from that. In fact, it has strengthened trust the students have with me. I reply and the admin who addresses the matter lets the student know the matter has had action. We want kids to know that we handle every matter.
This also serves as documentation.
I do follow-up in person, but in a natural, casual way.
