I have found it very useful to customize my Google email account so that I'm able to have the reading plane available to preview messages. A few years ago our district changed from the Outlook mail server to Gmail. Many teachers were accustomed to the Outlook format and Google allows users to customize their views to something very similar to Outlook. I've also gotten more accustomed to using labels and send+archive function has been a game-changer for number of messages in my inbox.
