By setting up a classroom gmail, I can use gmail as a way to communicate with parents and students as a group or individually.  I would have constant documentation of communication (when/why).

Also using google calendar will help my students, parents, and myself stay organized with upcoming assignments and due dates.

This is such a great idea! Using a classroom Gmail for communication, especially for documentation, sounds incredibly helpful. And pairing it with Google Calendar, much like how "Drive Mad" players use its map to plan their routes, would definitely keep everyone on track with assignments and due dates. Very practical!
