I have a personal gmail account that I don't use much. I use Outlook or our school email server for most of my email needs. My school Google account does not have Gmail set up.
I did the assignment with my personal account. I have used these same ideas with Outlook in the past. The main thing that I use groups and such for is to let parents know that there is a test coming up and attaching study guides to the email. My students don't always pass information along to their parents or forget things at school, so I try to take these excuses away from them. I like to send this out as a group so that I don't have to send it more than 1 time.
Our school uses Google Gmail and it is a very effective way to communicate with staff, students and parents. It is great for sharing documents and spreadsheets to the staff also.
we don't use gmail for our email account, however we use goolge drive, google classroom, etc.... I use the google drive to share information with coworkers such as schedules, and websites. I also use to invite parents to see videos of their children doing various activities such as reading stories.
