I have used GMAIL chat to communicate with students when they have had a question on an assignment after being out of class for a few days. I see this being very beneficial to students so that they can keep up with the rest of the class and so we don't fall behind.
I really like the task list as well as I see that assignments that have multiple steps and due dates that this would not only be helpful to me as a teacher but to students as well. I think about a paper that students would do that they need to do research and notes for first, rough draft and a final paper, that would be due at different times.
