Grandma as a follower

Jaclyn
Social media seems to be the new place to vent. Often times posts venting about work, school or home-life are left vague enough for those who post to solicit the advice/sympathy/self-esteem boost they are looking for from others without ever having to confront the person they are venting about. However, the same rules we have always been taught to live by should still apply. If you wouldn't say it to their face, you shouldn't say it at all...verbally or digitally. If you don't want your grandma to see it, you shouldn't post it. We need to encourage users to understand that digital words have just as much power, if not more, than our verbal ones. We also need to encourage that our digital lives include the same variety of people that our social lives contain. When users are followed by parents, grandparents, bosses, ministers, etc, then we will have the same checks and balances that we have in our social lives as we do in our digital lives creating a digital world in which the norm is appropriateness instead of inappropriateness.
