How often should I service my Audi AC in Sharjah heat

jordencox
I have a question that I have been meaning to ask for a while but never got around to it until now. I own an Audi A4 and I have had the car for almost three years now. I am very careful about engine oil changes, brake checks, tire rotations, and all the regular maintenance that the manufacturer recommends. But one thing I have never done is any kind of service on the air conditioning system. The AC still blows cold air, at least for now, but I am wondering if I am making a mistake by ignoring it completely. I have heard different things from different people. Some say that if the AC is working fine, do not touch it, just leave it alone. Others say that the refrigerant naturally loses a small amount every year through the hoses and seals, and that the compressor oil also breaks down over time. Living in Sharjah where the summer temperatures are extreme for many months, I feel like the AC system works much harder here than in cooler countries. I am worried that one day it is just going to stop working without warning and I will be stuck in the middle of summer with no cooling. I have also read that running an AC system with low refrigerant can damage the compressor because the oil circulates with the refrigerant and if the refrigerant level drops too low, the compressor does not get enough lubrication. I do not want to wait until something breaks. At the same time, I do not want to pay for unnecessary services if they are not really needed. I have been looking into this online and found a place called Sharjah Audi AC Certified Repair Workshop that offers AC system checks and maintenance. But before I decide to take my car there, I want to ask other Audi owners in the UAE what they actually do. Do you get your AC system serviced regularly, like every year or every two years? Or do you just wait until something stops working and then fix it? If you do get regular service, what exactly do they do? Do they just check the pressure and add a little refrigerant if needed, or do they do a full evacuation and recharge with new oil and refrigerant? And roughly how much does this kind of service cost for an Audi in Sharjah? I am trying to figure out if this is one of those things that actually extends the life of the system or if it is just a way for garages to make extra money. Please share your real experiences and honest opinions because I really want to take good care of my car but I also do not want to waste money on things that do not matter. Thank you.
