Having used gmail for several years, I still didn't know how much is possible. Much of what I learned is organizational. Using Settings to organize Labels will relieve frustration with the long list that was showing. The Categories, Flags, Filters, and Labels explanations will help. Huge for me was getting rid of unwanted contacts. All gmail addresses at school were changed, with the old ones still there, along with other no longer relevant addresses. It's easy to click on the wrong address. Tasks, I think, will be a great reminder when students ask for particular art materials I need to get ready or I need to take something to the other building, etc. The reminder will be right in my face! I've never used Google Calendar but plan to see if it's a good addition to what I already use. Hangouts might be useful. One I idea I have for it is when students hit a problem or question about something, or make a discovery that would be useful to several. An example would be when 6th graders were new to our 1:1 program and couldn't figure out how to print. One enterprising young man figured out how, and I sent the message to the others in Classroom (My printing is not the same as students). If I had a 6th grade Hangout set up, information could be shared there. I need to get a couple student volunteers to 'play around' with that. Google Classroom or gmail have been used for that so far. Hangouts might be an attention grabber for students. Classroom and gmails don't always do it.
