Inappropriate Digital Media Use

Mary Cornilsen
Email was popularly used to communicate to both peers and students in my teaching environment. Unfortunately, students often didn't think who their "audience" was...this goes back to our first discussion prompt. The student's inappropriate message to me via email provided good digital written communication content to relay to students. A courteous salutation, body clearly written using proper grammar and capitalization, and closing is appropriate for both the classroom and eventually their career.

I follow the rule that students silence cell phones and put them away while in my classes unless I am using the cell phone for polling or something. Finally, forwarding emails and messages without knowledge of the original sender should be cautioned.
