Inappropriate Use Digital Media - Liz Weisinger

liz.weisinger@fmcsd.org
There was a female student at school who posted on social media a nude pic from the waist up to her boyfriend who shared it with all his friends. The administration spent a lot of time dealing with this and trying to educate students and parents. I personally receive texts with links that are sexual in nature which I delete as soon as I see. This is just a waste of my time and I have tried to block all the numbers but they just switch numbers all the time and keep coming.  I wished my cell phone number was not public, but nothing can be kept private in today's digital world.

I agree with you, I too get frustrated with the inappropriate use of my cell phone number and wished there was some way to stay clear of the hackers sending the inappropriate sexual texts.  I worry about the younger generation who fall easy into that trap and reply to those texts.  I think this is an area that parents could educate their children better on.  As teachers, that is often a tough topic to approach.  I'm sure there are lots of students who also get those types of texts and do not talk about it to the adults in their lives.
