In my current position, I teach students at a community college that has great age, ethnic, cultural and socio-economic diversity. Prior to that, I was a Director of Technology in a K-12 school district.I have seen many cases of students of different ages not understanding what is inappropriate in a work or school setting. This is hard to do because of social media platforms have blurred the lines. I have seen many things that are inappropriate. In many cases, confidently laws limited what I could and could not do.
In my current classes I remind them that if they are using a school or work email, the contents of that email could become public record (especially if they are employees of a public institution).
I encourage students to "treat others as you would like to be treated."
