I had a group of students this year that had all added some "boy" them met on SnapChat to a group chat. They were giving on very private personal information and contemplating meeting up with this person. Fortunately, these students were comfortable enough with me to talk about it. They had heard multiple times about never meeting with or even communicating with someone they have not met in person over social media. However, putting these precautions into practice is another story. It is very concerning to me that students (5th grade) are encountering these situations. We focused many class meetings on being safe online, we had the school resource officer come in and give a presentation about being safe online and attended a larger district-wide presentation about how to stay safe online.
