I can think of many times that students or peoople I know have used digital media inappropriately. One of the worst was when my sub posted nearly naked photos on her FB, which was wide open, so students started visiting her page. She was very young, cute, and nice looking in an itsy, bitsy, teeny-weeny bikini, which made her very popular with the boys. I was told they started doing all sorts of inappropriate things in class, like dropping things for her to pick up, etc. It became a nightmare!
Another time where students used technology inappropriately was when a student brought a flashdrive from home and put it into a fellow instructor's computer to work on a project. The teacher's computer was immediately infected with pornographic pictures. He freaked out and came running to get help. It was a virus and was hard to remove, but we were eventually able to clean it off his computer. The student had been browsing at home and the parents knew about it and had punished him. They didn't know he had saved pictures on his flash drive which also contained the virus. The student had no idea that all of this could happen. I believe this is where instruction in digital citizenship could have helped all concerned.
