The time that immediately comes to my mind happened during my daughters 7th grade year. When at the morning gathering, she immediately felt something was "off." Kids were huddled together, speaking in hushed tones. She knew something was wrong. When she finally asked someone, they showed her a SnapChat of another student within the school system. She was horrified, it was a picture of this girl's attempted suicide (thankfully she did not succeed). A picture in a tub, wrists slashed, and the message goodbye. My daughter did not have (nor does she now have) SnapChat, Instagram or even Faceboook accounts, yet this picture is still ingrained in her head. The idea that this image was "passed around school" makes my stomach churn. The idea that an account holder really has no control over things others post, really bothers me. The fact the school did not have any discussion with students about this incident, still really bothers me.
I am glad to say, the student did immediately receive help when the Chat went out (a receiver immediately called her parents). So her cry for help, did not go unanswered.
