I have recently seen some tragic news events that get shared or forwarded via social media. Many people feel the need to comment and offer their opinions without knowing the individuals, familites or all of the facts. Not only is it not necessary to comment on every post or news article, but innocent children or teenagers see these comments and are hurt tremendously. One instance involved a student of ours. His father was engaged in questionable behavior and ultimately arrested. Innocently enough, some digital citizen shared the newslink. However, multiple unthinking or uncaring digital citizens commented and the student was able to see and read the comments. Not only did he have to deal with a very difficult situation with his father, he had to see the community comments. Comments aren't necessary on every digital post.
