I think we can probably all name a time parents slandered a teacher on Facebook. There is a community page for the town where I used to teach. During Covid, parents would use this page to decimate teachers when they didn't agree with how hybrid/virtual learning was going. Oftentimes, these were things teachers didn't have any control over. While this isn't illegal, it's certainly hurtful. Parents would post without ever talking to the teacher, and often were wrong in their posting. Our principal would call parents and ask them about their post, and they'd immediately backtrack or were surprised he'd seen it at all.
The lesson here is that you don't know who can see what, regardless of your privacy settings. Just because you're behind a screen doesn't give excuses to be cruel. People are much braver behind a screen than they are in person!
