Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

Emily Schueth
When I was a senior, Facebook just came into existence, Myspace was super popular, and there was another platform that I cannot remember the name of. My friends and I had all of them. One day my friend shared with me that there was this creepy person from a neighboring town trying to talk to her on the platform I cannot remember. They did not have a picture, were in their 40's and started to send her very inappropriate messages. We all thought it was very strange. While I was at home sick one day she happened to go on the platform during one of our study halls and a picture showed up. It happened to be one of our very own teachers. She shared it with a teacher she trusted. The next day, the cops came and pulled him out of class. He came clean. As a teacher and a coach he knew better but did it anyway. Many women came forward after and had experienced many uncomfortable and inappropriate times with him which all went to court. The person on the other side can be ANYONE and I try to teach my students this often.

The first time I received a message from a hacker on Facebook it scared me.  I think we have gotten so used to these hacks that it doesn't really bother us very much.

It is sad that we get use to people being dishonest and bothering us.
