Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

Last year, my daughter's school allowed the use of cellphones in lunch, study hall, and passing periods.  My daughter had another girl take pictures of her and her friends during lunch.  Their faces were distorted as they were eating.  The girl put the pictures on Snapchat and she and her friends saw them.  They were hurt and angry.  I was upset for her but I also used the experience as a teachable moment.  I wanted her to be aware that if she chooses to use these social media outlets that things like this can happen.  It also helped drive home the appropriate use of technology.  We were able to discuss what her use of technology should look like as well as her choice to partake in the use of it. Our school has since banned cellphones during school periods which has helped alleviate that added stress in school.
