Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

Unfortunately, in both my elementary classroom and as a parent of a high school student I have seen many examples of inappropriate social media usage. In my classroom, I have had students attempt to google inappropriate pictures, steal each other's passwords to login and delete progress in accounts, and students who have posted bullying messages. We are very attentive and have many conversations about good digital citizenship, but it is an ongoing process to catch these infractions and use them as teachable moments. As a parent of a high school student, I have witness bullying on social media accounts, inappropriate pictures being sent, and students using technology to cheat on tests.
