Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

Unfortunately, I do see the inappropriate use of digital media. The most common I see is the misuse of social media to megaphone someone's personal problems for all to hear, even when it involves other people who may or may not want things publicly shared. In the educational setting, I see email misuse from time to time as well. It's important for educators to remember that all of our emails are public records, whether it is a personal email or not.

You bring up some great points! As a security feature for our students at school, they are able to access email, but not the chat features of email. So, they get around this by "chatting" one another via email...It has caused a lot of drama, a lot of hurt feelings, a lot of time spent by administrators sorting out problems, and a lot of focus pulled away from academics.

As for your comment about social media, yes! When things are posted online, it isn't just airing out our personal information of our choosing, we may be sharing others' info as well...and they may not want that shared. Great point!
