Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

Share a time when you or someone you know was the recipient of an inappropriate use of digital media or when you might have used digital media in an inappropriate manner. How did this make you or others feel? What might have been done differently?

There are so many times that I have witnessed the inappropriate use of digital media. As a teacher, there are many times when students used an app such as Snapchat to post inappropriate content. The information or the content was intercepted by another student or teacher, which resulted in the student being suspended. Recently, there was a student at our school who did something very inappropriate to another student and posted it on Snapchat. Another student reported the post, and the student was expelled from our school district.

This did not make the student feel comfortable and the parents of both parties were not impressed. I feel annoyed when these issues happen because I feel that social media and children with phones are not a good combination. The only thing that we can do differently as an educational system is to not allow phones in the classroom, period. Those of us who grew up without them in school turned out just fine.
