Inappropriate Use of Digital Media

stephanieolson
Social media is an extremely common thing to utilize in today's world. You are typically in the minority if you do not have any social media platform. When scrolling through social media, especially Facebook lately, I noticed that most people will "over share" about situations that the public really has no business knowing. I believe the last thing I read that I felt was inappropriate online was a person posting daily about how her divorce situation is going. I typically end up deleting these people off of my social media because truthfully nobody should know what is happening daily in a situation such as that. That, to me, is personal business and should be kept private. I think of the kids involved. They are at a young age now, but what happens when they grow up and understand that this situation was all over social media for the world to read.

Honestly, whenever I see divorce posts or videos, I always think about the other person involved in the divorce and can't imagine how that person feels. There are always two sides in a divorce. Whether or not they are the good or bad guy, I don't think posting about a divorce is an appropriate choice. That's such a personal thing. We are now to the point that people know that divorce is common and they are not alone in how a divorce feels. My parents were divorced when I was very young. Even if social media was more common when I was that age, I know my parents would not have posted about it because it's no one else's business.
