One example that I remember vividly is when a friend's facebook account was overtaken. It appeared like my friend posted a advertisement on Facebook Marketplace stating that his parents were downsizing and moving off the farm due to his father's illness. The items posted were great deals and many of his facebook friends and friends in real life started private messaging "him" for purchase the items. The person answering was not really my friend, but he knew so much personal information about my friend and the person who was messaging him that many people were scammed. My friend found out that this was happening, but was unable to get Facebook to help and he was unable to log onto his Facebook account to shut it down.
